A negative self-talk tracker app that doesn't try to fix you

Mendly is a negative self-talk tracker for iPhone that works with one tap. When a critical thought surfaces, you log it — no typing, no guided exercises. Over time you see when your inner critic is loudest and earn milestones for simply showing up. It's awareness without pressure.

The research

Psychologists call this negativity bias: negative self-talk is processed more intensely and remembered longer than praise of equal weight — Mendly's hourly pattern view is the first place most people see that bias mapped instead of just felt.

Quiz

What's your inner critic's pattern?

Question 1 of 4

When is your negative self-talk loudest?

Most people don't need to argue with their inner critic. They need to stop being surprised by it — and the surprise only goes away once you can see its schedule.

Features

One-tap logging

One tap marks the thought — no typing, no prompts. The friction is so low it actually works mid-meeting, mid-walk, mid-spiral.

Hourly patterns

See when your inner critic is loudest. Morning spirals? Late-night overthinking? Your data, your story.

Voice notes

15 seconds to say what was actually going through your head. Optional, private, and yours.

Not quite your pattern? For when the CBT app's structure became the reason you stopped opening it might fit better

Mendly's approach differs from CBT-style apps like MindLift, which ask you to reframe thoughts as you log them. Mendly separates noticing from changing — you log first, let patterns show up over time, and decide what (if anything) to do about them. If you want the reframing layer too, see how the two compare.

Common questions

How is this different from a journaling app?
Journaling asks you to write. Mendly asks you to tap. There's no blank page, no prompts, no minimum effort required. A log entry is a timestamp and, if you want, a 15-second voice note. That's it. The insight comes from accumulation, not articulation.
Won't logging negative thoughts make me focus on them more?
It's a fair concern, and the opposite tends to happen. Noticing a thought and marking it creates a tiny moment of distance — you're the observer, not the thought. Most users report the frequency feeling lower once they're tracking, not higher, because the act of logging interrupts the rumination loop rather than feeding it.
Is this a CBT app?
Mendly is informed by awareness-based approaches but it's not a therapy tool and it doesn't guide you through cognitive restructuring. It's closer to a mindfulness habit than a clinical intervention. If you're looking for structured CBT exercises, a different app may suit you better — and that's okay.
